Industry 1.0 – full speed ahead with steam and water
Everyone is undoubtedly familiar with the term “industrial revolution.” The industrial revolution began towards the end of the 18th century. Generally, the industrial revolution is also referred to as industrialization. Until that time, man was the main driving force of labor. Gradually, the industrial revolution replaced human labor with machines. These machines were powered by water and steam. One example was mechanized looms. Many new jobs were created in the factories. This changed social and working life enormously. Workers who had previously worked in agriculture and handicrafts now had to work in factories. There they earned more money, but at the same time, they worked under much worse working conditions. In the countryside, the consequences were mainly negative, as there was now a lack of workers drawn away to the factories. The result: many factories had to close.
