Seamlessly integrate your shop floor and top floor

It is crucial for manufacturing companies to be able to run smooth processes between order acceptance and product delivery. Digital solutions ensure this. In the SAP solution world, the SAP Digital Manufacturing MES solution enables seamless networking of the shop floor and top floor – i.e. data flows from the management level to the machine level and back.

With the cloud-based MES solution SAP Digital Manufacturing, all MES functionalities based on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) can be seamlessly integrated into the entire SAP world. A company’s planning and production become an end-to-end data world in which SAP / ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is seamlessly integrated with SAP Digital Manufacturing.

Connecting shop floor and top floor

SAP Digital Manufacturing can be seamlessly networked with the SAP solution world. There are various integration scenarios for connecting to:

  • SAP S/4HANA or SAP ERP
  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud
  • SAP Business Network Asset Collaboration
  • SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management)
  • Shop floor

Execution

The main purpose of SAP DM is to improve both visibility and operations in a production environment by connecting enterprise systems and shop floor assets.

SAP DM can be seamlessly networked with SAP ERP corporate planning. Through integration with SAP S/4HANA or other SAP ERP systems, production orders, BOMs and routings can be automatically transferred from the ERP system to SAP DM. The production data recorded in SAP DM, such as quantities, quality results and resource consumption, is in turn reported back to the ERP system in real time.

This integration creates global transparency across all plants and enables well-founded decision-making at management level based on current production data.

Insights

SAP Digital Manufacturing offers performance management that can be seamlessly networked with the SAP ERP world. This gives production managers a holistic view of production performance.

  • SAP DM can merge data from different SAP systems such as S/4HANA or ECC. This makes it possible to combine production data from the ERP system with real-time information from the shop floor. Detailed analyses of production performance across multiple production sites become possible.
  • Preconfigured key performance indicators (KPIs) can be derived directly from the ERP data and enriched with current production data to generate meaningful key figures.
  • Factory teams create individual dashboards and reports that combine data from the ERP system with production data. This enables end-to-end transparency from management to the production area.
  • Root cause analysis is significantly improved by linking ERP and production data, which contributes to informed decision-making at management level.
  • Networking also supports predictive functions that compare ERP planning data with current production information in order to identify potential bottlenecks or quality problems at an early stage.

Resource Orchestration

SAP Resource Orchestration (SAP REO) is part of the SAP Digital Manufacturing (SAP DM) solution. It is a cloud-based planning tool that has been specially developed for the detailed planning and control of production resources.

SAP REO supports production managers and production planners in the detailed control and monitoring of resources, shift planning and coordination of production.

SAP REO also enables seamless integration with the SAP ERP world. Through integration with SAP S/4HANA and SAP ERP ECC, data such as production orders, shift schedules and resource availability can be exchanged between the systems in real time. This ensures precise and efficient planning as well as the dynamic adjustment of production processes based on current capacities and requirements.
