Smart Factory

The term Smart Factory refers to the visionary concept of a self-organizing production environment. The smart factory term is part of the German government’s Industry 4.0 project blueprint and defines the opportunities that digitization can offer for industrial manufacturing. Logistics systems and manufacturing plants are to operate in a corresponding environment, mainly without human intervention. Cyber-physical systems form the basis for this. The wireless networking of manufacturing systems and products via the so-called Internet of Things makes automated production steps possible. The necessary information for this is contained in a computer chip in the products and manufacturing components. Production systems can read and process this information, initiate all the critical logistical processes and production steps, and coordinate them. This is intended to enable an optimized manufacturing process with high transparency, efficiency, and flexibility with low personnel requirements.
