Industry 3.0
Industry 3.0 – the computer makes an appearance
The path from Industry 2.0 to Industry 3.0 was made possible by the development of the computer. Since the 1970s, electronic components have been used in industrial environments. Production was further advanced through automation with electronics, IT, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The processes of machines could be controlled much more efficiently, reducing human intervention to a minimum. This was a huge step forward compared to series production, as engines were now much more automated. The controls and components of the chips became more and more effective and smaller, so electronics underwent rapid development. More and more devices could be equipped with their intelligence. At the same time, it was now possible to record more and more data obtained from automation. However, the problem with this data was that it was always available with a time delay or after the fact. This meant that new knowledge could only be gained slowly and fed back to automation.
